Current Music: The Adventures of Huck Finn on DVD
So I can't tell what the tiny text says, but I'm assuming nothing dirty. . . . I found this on a lovely Elijah Wood website which is credited in the userpics info for this icon on my userpics. :) It'll do until I can get what I need, n'est-ce pas?

I have finished the first draft of the first chapter of the measles fic. Am trying to come up with a title before posting. I'm partway into Chapter Two already, and hope to get farther along tomorrow, as I'm probably going to stop for the night here in a few minutes. But I did want to let y'all know that it IS coming together, bit by bit. First chappie's about 1.5 pages long, single-spaced. (I don't tend to write really long chapters, I'm afraid.)

Anyone out there want to beta this thing before I actually post? I'm not asking for the works, just a quickie beta, and as I said, my chapters are not exactly Tolstoy. ;)

Thanks,
Febobe

Current Music: The Adventures of Huck Finn on DVD
Hello again. . .

Would anyone with more icon-making talent than me (which wouldn't take much!) and access to Huck Finn screencaps be kind enough to consider making me an icon or two of Huck when he wakes up in bed toward the end of the movie? He's SOOO cute in that scene, and I don't have a single Huck icon. . . . *sniffle* Much less a HuckHealers icon. . . . *doublesniffle*

Pretty please? I promise to dedicate the upcoming fic to you. . .and we're talking a long fic. . . . :D Huck with measles, anyone? :)

*looks hopeful*

Current Music: The Adventures of Huck Finn on DVD
I know it's been a "powerful long time," as Huck would say, since anyone posted here, but I'm going to jump in. . . . :D

A plot bunny dropped into the water by Elevenses on my birthday about 4.5 years back is nibbling at my toes (August 5, 2004: "1. The classic HuckHealers story: Huck gets sick somewhere along the river and Jim has to care for him. While ill, Huck's normally tough exterior gives way to show his very vulnerable side - he is just a 12-year-old boy, after all."). I'm thinking of trying to work on this one - my first ever HuckHealers fic - and would like some input.

The illnesses I'm considering are measles, typhoid fever, and influenza. I reserve the right to repeat the fic with whatever I don't use first time, because it will totally change things around. But still, the first time is always "special," and I'd like it to be really perfect. I'm leaning toward either measles or typhoid, probably measles, and I wondered whether anyone here had any thoughts they wanted to offer. I have already started my notes and am hoping to have a first chapter up fairly soon. I'd like to get going well enough to post at a reasonably steady pace, but we'll have to see.

Thoughts? Bueller? Bueller? :) Anybody home out there?

Apr. 29th, 2008 @ 02:55 pm Huckleberry Finn: The Book.

Hmm.  I've read many of your comments and I cannot tell if we have read the same book, -or even if many of you have read the book.  I have not seen the movie, and after reading your comments I do not find myself overly eager to view this movie.  I have seen several other Huck Finn movies which have proven woeful embarrassments, and have about as much to do with the book as a rabid marsupial has to do with the price of ass in China.

The book I read was  "The Adventures of  Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain.  I found it to be, perhaps the finest American novel I have read because of it's instructive moral center.  (Note that Twain's Forward was only an attempt to make this not so obvious)

I have read this book about once a year for the last 25 years –Along with “Life on The Mississippi”  and The Tragedy of Puddn’ Head Wilson.

After reading your comments and examining my own thoughts, I will leave you with a  quote from Puddn’ Head Wilson’s Calendar;

“Remark of Dr. Baldwin's, concerning upstarts: We don't care to eat toadstools that think they are truffles.”

Perhaps some of you will want to leave me with a quote from the movie "Stripes".  I.e., Bill Murry's famous line, "Lighten up Francis." .  Either way, I encourage you all to read the BOOK. It's pretty good and the medium of movies is not likely to equal Mr. Twain's effort.

Jun. 6th, 2005 @ 11:43 pm Drabble Challenge Resurrected!!
Current Mood: chipperchipper
I liiiiiiiiiiiiive!!! Very sorry for the lengthy absence, everyone. Real Life got quite overwhelming for a while, and when I finally got a respite LJ wouldn't let me log-in! >:( But that seems to be (mostly) fixed now, so I'm going to start up the drabble challenges again!

...Yes, I realize that no one participated at all last time, but I understand that sometimes Real Life just doesn't allow one to pursue the really important things in life ;), so I'm going to try and keep posting challenges in the hope that eventually more will be able to join in. :P

Thus, this week's challenge (#4, I believe) is Prank! I want to have fun with this one. You can submit as many drabbles as you want - just remember to keep them within the theme and under 300 words.

And of course, this challenge will end next Monday, whatever the date is. (The 13, right? Ack. Where's my calendar...) So hurry up and get your drabbles in! :D

Sheesh, what a quiet week. Anyone out there? *crickets chirp* Well, sorry I'm late with this week's theme... To be honest I just forgot about it. :P

Anyway, this week's theme is... Horses, and you have until Monday, April 25 to get your drabbles in. :) Good luck!

Well, the first challenge didn't have the turnout I hoped for, but maybe this week's will fire your muses a little better.

The theme for this week's drabble challenge is Fear. Please post your drabbles by Monday, April 18! Also, to make things easier for everyone, I've decided to extend the maximum acceptable length - from now on any drabble under 300 words is valid. Have fun!

Oh, and before I forget... I would like to give a special thanks to shirehobbit2002 for entering the one and only drabble in last week's challenge, entitled "Forgiveness". It's a lovely little piece! Here is your icon:

Well, shirehobbit2002 thinks I should go for it, and since she's the co-founder of this whole community I'm going to follow her advice. ;)

Thus we have the first Huck Finn Drabble Contest! *crickets chirp* Aw, come on, you don't have to sound so excited. :P Anyway, the theme is Friendship. An easy one, right? Right??

The rules:

1. NO SLASH. Sorry.
2. G - PG-13 rating, please. So keep any profanity and violence toned down a little.
3. Seeing as it's a drabble challenge, nothing over a 100 words will be allowed. (Unless of course I decide to make it a double- or triple-drabble challenge sometime. :P)
4. Each theme - except for this first one - will last one week: announcement will be on each Monday.

To enter, just post your drabble in an entry with the subject "Challenge #(whatever) - "Your Drabble Title". Since this is the first theme, and I have no idea if anyone will even enter at all I'll give you a little longer to get your drabbles in. So... from today until Monday, April 11, let's say.

Okay? Feel free to ask if you need something clarified. Otherwise, get to writing! :)

ETA: New idea. If anyone is interested, I'll be offering an icon and/or banner to all who enter each challenge. Just let me know when you submit your drabble if you'd like one! :)
